The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt KId Written by Munroe from Chapel Hill, NC on December 21st, Book Rating: 5/5; If you were a child in the era that he writes about you will be reminded of so many things that you probably have not thought about in years. I found myself laughing out loud in my car listening to his recollections.   In THE LIFE AND TIMES OF THE THUNDERBOLT KID, we learn a great deal more about Bill and his friends and how he started his worldwide meanderings. Bryson was the son of a sports reporter father, Bill Bryson, Sr., and women's page columnist Mary Bryson, who wrote for the Des Moines Register.

The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid was a very enjoyable memoir that I thought effectively covered both the author’s childhood and the wider issues going on in the country at the time. It was the perfect mix of personal and national issues with a fantastic touch of humor. Warm and laugh-out-loud funny, and full of his inimitable, pitch-perfect observations, The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid is as wondrous a book as Bill Bryson has ever written. It will enchant anyone who has ever been young. Last summer I attended my 30th high school reunion.

Bill Bryson was born in Des Moines, Iowa, in His bestselling books include The Road to Little Dribbling, Notes from a Small Island, A Walk in the Woods, One Summer and The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid. In a national poll, Notes from a Small Island was voted the book that best represents Britain. The author describes his all-American childhood growing up as a member of the baby boom generation in the heart of Iowa, detailing his rich fantasy life as a superhero known as the Thunderbolt Kid and his remarkably normal s family life.
